POLLS: NBA warns lawyers against interfering in electoral process

The Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, has cautioned its members in all the states of the federation against interfering in the electoral process during today’s governorship and State House of Assembly elections.

The warning was contained in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja by the Chairman of the NBA Election Working Group, Mr Dafe Akpedeye.

“As one of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) accredited domestic observer groups for the 2015 governorship elections, the NBA hereby invites all lawyers to participate in the forthcoming elections.

“Note that you are not to interfere in the electoral process as you are not an accredited INEC observer, but you are only assisting the NBA to effectively cover the exercise in all localities,” he said.

“The collective duty of the association as observers in the elections is to monitor the way and manner votes are cast in the various polling units,” Akpedeye added.

He also appealed to Nigerians to conduct themselves in the peaceful manner in which they did during the Presidential and National Assembly elections.

Governorship elections, however, would not hold in Edo, Ekiti, Bayelsa, Osun, Kogi, Anambra and Ondo states.
